Recently, our teachers had the wonderful opportunity to travel abroad and participate in the Mosaic exhibition organized by REACH. This event was not only a celebration of art and education but also a meaningful platform to connect with educators worldwide and deepen our understanding of the Reggio Emilia approach.

Entering Mosaic: The Hundred Languages of Children

The theme “Mosaic” reflected the essence of Reggio Emilia education—“the hundred languages of children.” Every piece displayed was more than an artwork; it was a dialogue, an expression, and a way for children to communicate with the world. By exploring the exhibition, our teachers observed how educators from different countries present children’s learning processes and discoveries.

Deepening Understanding of the Reggio Approach

Throughout the exhibition, our teachers engaged in rich conversations with mentors and facilitators, focusing on key principles of the Reggio philosophy:

  • The Environment as the Third Teacher: The exhibition’s thoughtful design reminded us how spaces themselves inspire exploration and learning.

  • Children as Active Protagonists: The discussions emphasized that children are not passive receivers of knowledge but curious, capable, and creative explorers.

  • Valuing the Process Over the Product: Many works on display were not “perfect finished pieces” but rather traces of children’s thinking, exploration, and experimentation. This highlighted the importance of honoring the journey of learning.

Inspiration and Reflection

The experience sparked many reflections for our teachers:

  • How can we create more opportunities for inquiry in daily classroom practice?

  • In what ways can materials, environments, and open-ended questions support children’s hundred languages of expression?

  • How can we involve parents more deeply in appreciating and understanding their children’s learning journey?

Moving Forward

Education is an ongoing dialogue, a continuous process of growth. The REACH Mosaic exhibition reaffirmed the significance of the Reggio Emilia philosophy in today’s context. Our teachers return inspired, eager to weave these insights into our practice, and committed to creating an environment where children can explore, discover, and express themselves freely.
